If we pay a little attention, we will find that the locks are not popular for hospital doors, only the main doors and the doors for some special rooms assemble the lock, others like the inpatient wards and consultation rooms don't assemble the locks.

With the reason above, when there were a fire or the hospital need to be evacuated the hospital urgently will be no need to worry about unlocking doors and having to get patients out the door,because the doors without lock could be open freely, which will save much time to escape. That is just one reason ,other reasons like patients that with high risk for falls and other mental status changes you cannot be left alone for long periods of time. The locks only on psychiatric floors in they are only used in the event that the patient needs to be locked out of her room to make sure that they do not hurt them selves or stay away from group therapy and other activities but never to be locked inside and in seclusion.

If the patients obviously get out of hand and must need to be locked in a place, in this situation they will be placed into seclusion room for a small period of time and checked on every 15 minutes. Or if a patient requires physical restraint and they must be checked on an assigned a person to be there guardian in the event of an emergency that way at no point new patient is left behind during any emergency or fire.

Today, the doors in hospitals had already upgraded, the locks could be assembled on the doors which they were not be before,they are electronic lock or magnetic lock . For example, on psychiatric units they are always active controlled by employee keycards usually. Otherwise the locks only come into use during a fire alarm,when a fire alarm sounds all doors shut locking people in units, hallways, waiting rooms everywhere so that wherever the fire may be it will not spread throughout the hospital. Only the stairwells remain unlocked.
